Vagabond Tales – We’ve Got a Ticket to Ride

August 11, 2026. Downtown Banff. Still staying at Bow River Campground 🇨🇦

Before we left, Harry had purchased tickets for us to ride the Banff Gondola today! Weathermen were saying 40% rain, we knew there was smoke in the air but still…We had a ticket to ride!

Very confusing…we had vouchers on Harry’s phone but we still needed to get in line and get our tickets!
We thought we might be riding alone in the gondola but right at the very last minute…we were already moving and this guy jumped in with us!
Well, this guy is the head chef for all of the restaurants his company owns. He says he is not getting to do what he loves anymore since he has been moved into a corporate position. Today he was doing some taste testing and demonstrating! He couldn’t wait. Also, an interesting note is that he and his family own a yellow school bus that he has personally made into a camper. It has two bedrooms with queen beds. He would love to do what we have done when he retires!
They were ready but we didn’t need them!
We couldn’t see a thing when we got to the top! Too smoky!
We came down into town after our ride and saw two deer!
Coyote Grill was just ok but eating outside in sunshine was a bonus!
This is just an “isn’t this interesting” note. We have been driving under these tunnels on the Trans Canada #1 Highway. In doing research we found it has 7 going over like this one and 42 going under. Do you see the turf that has been planted on top of the tunnel? When they built the highway they were having many serious accidents involving animals. So, they built these over and under the road to give the wildlife the opportunity to get across the road safely, instead of playing “FROGGER”. It has reduced wildlife collisions by more than 80% and up to 96% for elk and deer .

  1. Absolutely LOVE the tunnel/wildlife bridges! I was just reading about one on facebook. It showed how the wildlife bridge was completed and how much the animals are using it!

    1. When they first were trying he’s out, they made them very narrow and the predators would simple wait on the other side as their dinner came to them. Once they enlarged them it was a fairer arrangement for all concerned! 😊
