Vagabond Tales- Thank America’s Quiet Heroes

July 28, 2026 Iowa. Site 2

Thank you for feeding America!
Have you ever stopped to think about how much hard work it takes to feed our country?

These country roads are one farm after another. So beautiful and we are so thankful to the farmers of America!

Tonight this is where we are staying…
Maquoketa Caves State Park

Maquoketa is one of Iowa’s most unique parks with more caverns than any other park in the state, numbering 16. We hiked through thick hardwood forests with limestone cliffs above us. There were stairs after stairs to getup to the caves. I am so thankful I am over a year past my knee surgery. The stairs were no issue for me! Praise the Lord!

Harry and Finn in Dugout.

Finn and I scrunched into Wide Mouth Cave.

Temperatures were quite hot. We were reminded of why we like to camp most in the spring and fall.

Some of the wild flowers along the trail..
Finn looked for another kind on plant on this hike…. Burrs of every shape and size! I’ll be tackling his burrs as soon as this post is off into space and into your homes.
Ginger Peach Skillets for two.

    1. Thanks, Diane! Today driving has been our only rain and they really need it here! GPS took us through a crazy muddy, dirt road. Thankfully, it took us to a paved road close to the park but, oh brother was the truck muddy!

  3. Thanks to the FARMERS for all their hard work 24/7/365!

  5. We loved seeing the VERY tall cornfield! Yes, we really are extremely thankful for America’s farmers. It seems there is less and less farmland all the time so it’s good to know there’s more in the heartland. We had a big rain event in JC last evening with lots of flooding in low areas around town and in Gray. Continuing to pray for your safe travels! Give Finn a big hug from us!! Linda and Dennis

    1. That corn was very close to where they filmed Field of Dreams. We were there on one other trip and when I asked Harry if he wanted to stop by again, he said he was afraid it would spoil his first time there!q. Didn’t want to mess with his memories!😘. Love you two!

    1. Yes, the knees are doing well up to this point! Last year it would have been a totally different story! Lots of wind today on the road and it is one of our long drive days! Please pray for traveling mercies!143❤️
