Vagabond Tales- It’s the Little Things

August 8. 2026 Bow Valley Provincial Park, Alberta, 🇨🇦Canada

A long travel Day…These are the little things that made us smile! * Having to leave early meant no breakfast but…Harry found a Starbucks in Medicine Hat, Alberta, not too far into the trip this morning. *Gasoline for a much needed fill-up when Canada doesn’t mark their roads with signage of what”s happening at each exit. * We came across a fruit truck with fresh plums and cherries. * Harry says he found the best Walmart in the world! That’s saying a lot! * We were able to find a place to fill our propane tank. *. Last but not least, we have a response to the bird identification question I posed in yesterday’s blog!

Starbucks are using wooden forks for their egg bites. In the U.S. we get plastic. Canada prohibits all plastic single use utensils anywhere in their country!
Wow…squeezed into a petrol station…waited forever at the pumps but we were so thankful to find one, as they are not as prevalent as we are accustomed to.
We stop for fruit trucks! Cherries and plums were on the shopping list.
🥇World’s Best Walmart, according to Harry! Medicine Hat , Alberta, Canada
We have been surprised how fast we have taken our propane down. We use it primarily for our refrigerator and cooking! We think since it is hot outside when we are traveling it is taking more to keep our food safe.
Thanks goes out to Kathy for our answer

Hey Karen! I think that is a black billed Magpie. We saw a lot of these when we lived in Montana. Be careful! They like to steal “stuff”! Also, you can teach them to talk like a parrot! Funny birds!

Now I want to see another one of these! He definitely was talking to us!

Note the mountains behind the sign. Smoke has returned in force!
We have a beautiful site. Finn approves! The table is showing off our fruit purchase and the bear sign that is affixed is for our friend, Diane. She has warned us of the bears around here! This is where we need to be careful, for sure! And no…we did not leave the fruit on the picnic table.
A short hike across from our campsite

We are sitting in our camper and it is hailing tonight! Like sitting in a cooking pan and having someone bang it with a wooden spoon while you are in it!😳. But many are here camping in tents…I can only imagine what they are going through. Weather predictions while we are here are rain, rain and more rain. We can’t complain. They sure need water. We’ll just enjoy what we can!🩷

  1. I love your “little things” that actually seem like big, important things to me!

I figured you would see a lot of bear warnings. Stay safe!!
