August 3, 2026. Medora – Boots Campground Site 2
I neglected to share with you that yesterday while driving into ND that the thermometer on the car registered 109°. It took quite a while to get our camper cooled down for a night’s sleep. This morning, as we left for President Theodore Roosevelt’s Presidential Library for our appointment at 10:00 am, the thermometer read 75°. When we came out of the library at 1:00…the wind was blowing 30 miles an hour, no joking…and the car registered 56° . We arrived back to the camper, after lunch and it started a steady downpour for several hours along with the strong winds! Tonight the weathermen are predicting it will be in the low 40’s.
This is an extraordinary building. As you might know, President Roosevelt’s presidential library just opened July 4, 2026 a mere 107 years after his death. It is an amazing building. They used locally sourced materials, including rammed earth and mass timbers! So awesome! (If you want to be blown away…look up rammed earth construction. Mind-blowing and beautiful. The striped picture in the middle/ bottom is a full wall of rammed earth.)
Once inside each person is given a wristband. This band has your information on it and as you tap the band throughout the facility it keeps a diary of your journey.

We don’t want to spoil it for you but I will say…if you can bring your family here you will all love it…adults and children alike! We sat around campfires with the president, traveled to the Amazon and actually met with a hologram of the President like in a press conference and President Teddy would answer and discuss anything you asked him about his life and where he stood on topics of the day! I know my Dad would have absolutely been wowed by this experience! He loved innovation and tried to keep up with everything new!
We saved this gorgeous porch for last…when the wind was blowing. My hair shows it and both of us were freezing!Lunch at the Farmhouse meant I did not have to cook tonight! And below…a picture of our camper in the gravel parking lot called Boots Campground.Several have reached out asking about the fires and smoke issues. Unfortunately, we are seeing smoky skies…not so much smelling the smoke but there is a soft edge to every thing you see because of the hazy skies. We are definitely keeping an eye on things and asking opinions from rangers when available!Finn is tuckered out from waiting for us to get back. He keeps the camper safe in air- conditioning and hiked with us when we got back. National Parks do not let dogs on trails and certainly staying behind in a car is NOT an option!
