Vagabond Tales-National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum

March 19, 2025 Twin Fountains Site W25

You can see, from the sky, why we chose to do this today, rather than the Myriad Botanical Gardens.
End of the Trail by James Earle Fraser Sculptors amaze me!

The museum was established to honor the American Cowboy and his era. There are 28,000 pieces of art and artifacts.👀A lot of walking was done by all.

They had a room of boots, a room of barbed wire, saddles, lots of rifles, and handguns, as you can well imagine. There were many things outdoors that we did not take advantage of since the weather was not pleasant.
They had multiple stops for selfies. We did the first and ignored the rest.
Art, handguns, and another sculpture. Notice the bugler on horseback! Fun fact… I played the bugle during my week at Druce Lake Camp, as a 6th grader, once in the morning to wake everyone up with a reveille and taps to go to bed. That meant my councilor and I had to get up before anyone else, get dressed and go to the center of the bunk areas and play. I was also last to bed.
The Native Americans had many beautiful articles of clothing, pottery, weaponry and art work.
Wells Fargo Stage Coach complete with bouncy springs for a smooth ride.
Every aspect that you can imagine of the old west was represented in this museum.

We have a dining suggestion should you find yourself in Oklahoma City.

Whiskey Cake Kitchen and Bar. For us, this was, what our friends, Anita and Ken, always called “Linner”. Of course, Harry had to try the Whiskey cake! We loved their Brussel Sprouts! We have some family that might enjoy their rendition.

  1. Looks like an interesting museum and a WONDERFUL Cafe! Your food looks SO TASTY!!

    Your hair looks really cute!

    1. Thank you, Diane. My hair was easier to work with this morning than it has been for a couple of weeks. It was an amazing museum. We thought we would be there an hour but three hours later we were still immersed in cowboy lore. ❤️

    1. Those boys would have enjoyed the large section that was an old western town complete with a bank, restaurant, mercantile and a jail! We thought we would only be there a brief time but there is a lot to see. I imagine when the weather is nice the outdoor area would be fun!❤️

    1. Graycen…playing the bugle had good and not so good things. I was last to bed and earliest to rise. Not a young girls favorite things. But it is certainly a memory I can be proud to know I did.

  2. What an adventure you are having! Although I have been on several trips out west, you and Harry have surpassed them all! You have seen and observed many places that are completely new to me; you could return as a tour guide!
AND, most impressive was your courage in going to an unknown beauty salon and stylist! But WOW…the result is wonderful and most attractive!

    1. Ha! I was just so tired of trying to get my shaggy hair to look a bit reasonable. I had resorted to wearing one of those gaiters you put around your neck, as a headband. I figured hair grows!😀
