Vagabond Tales- Visit Bandelier

March 11, 2025 Santa Fe Skies RV. Site 30

This park is named for Adolf F.A. Bandelier because his life’s passion was studying the Ancestral Pueblo People of the Southwest. Bandelier is an easy park to navigate, see a bit into the life of the indigenous peoples and come to have respect for their daily struggles.

These mountains are made up of volcanic rock that wind, rain, and freezing and thawing have made into a Swiss cheese .
Kiva- a circular structure used by the Puebloan people for rites and political meetings. It would have had a roof on it when in use.
Great smooth sidewalks for cane users!😊
The far edge of the longhouse.
Canyon floor remains of stone homes.
You can see what is left.
Cliff view of the Canyon Floor dwellings. There were believed to be more than a hundred people living on the floor of the canyon, as you can see from a higher vantage point.
We climbed these stairs. If you squint you can see the red arrow I added indicating a young man, showing where he and others were exploring.
These Petroglyphs found in three different places in Bandelier are different than those found in Canyon de Chelley. In Bandolier they are carved. Canyon de Chelsey’s are painted.
Ponderosa Pine at almost 12 o’clock on this picture.
If you find a Ponderosa Pine, the bark has a decidedly vanilla/butterscotch smell , especially if the sun has been shining on it. In the summer, you can detect the scent by just walking by a tree.
Finn found a perfect Dog Park!
