Vagabond Tales-Dry Camping in Cottonwood

March 8, 2025. Cottonwood Campground Site 2 Chinle, Arizona

🎉🎉. We have three names on the prize wheel so far. Look on yesterday’s post at the picture from Antelope Canyon. Here’s a tip…Think scary or freaky movie.

We haven’t seen actual trees for a while! These are along the drive coming into the campground. Cottonwood

Frémont’s cottonwood. It is native to the zones of the Southwestern United States. I don’t know what they look like leafed-out but I love the bare look without leaves. So graceful! Note the snow they had yesterday still on the ground!

Not unhooking tonight. We are dry camping and it is supposed to get down to 27 degrees tonight. 🥶 We will layer the blankets.

Below you will find a few photos taken from the car on our drive here today!

I thought this looked like a castle sitting out on the plains!
Started seeing snow on the ground from last night’s snow fall.

Tomorrow…Canyon de Chelly!

  1. I agree with you, Karen. The cottonwoods look very graceful even without leaves. Keep enjoying your trip!

    1. They say when they bloom it is as if it is snowing. Can’t imagine how many allergies there could be! Kind of like, our pine pollen covering everything in yellow!
