Vagabond Tales- Antelope Canyon…No AI Involved

March 6, 2025

About six months ago, I was reading an article about this canyon. Harry had been already deep into the ins and outs of this trip. It usually takes him months and months to plan this long of an excursion with all of the logistics. But he took a look at the article and said he would try to fit it into the schedule. Then I hurt my knee and feared I would have to bow out and stay back at the camper. Last night when he was making our hiking reservations, I told him I would like to go and thought I could do it! So this morning…48 degrees, wind 30 miles and hour, sleet and rain we lined up with maybe fifty other frozen people to take a hike.

Leo our guide was wiping the water off of the vinyl seats. We truly were thankful we were the smallest group and ended up in Leo’s truck! We had three couples and the rest had 10-12 in their groups. These trucks reminded me of itinerant farmer trucks. We sat along the side facing each other.

Below…look at the cleft in that rock! Can you imagine the first people who saw it, and determined to explore what was in there? I know how speechless I was!

The Navajo believe the top picture looks like the sun coming over a mountain range.
Some of these…I just have no words…
I think this one looks like Pharaoh!
Rushing water/floods carved this canyon. Leo, our guide said this is a sacred place for the Navajo. If you want to see this canyon you must go through one of The Indian Nation’s sanctioned travel groups.
Honestly, I may have to make a book of all of the photographs we got! I will say, Leo knew some great phone photo techniques and shared them with us!

As my friend Jean asked, “ Who but our great God, could have created such beautiful sights?”

A super day in-spite of the weather! When we came out the sun was shining…still cold and windy but a gift, never the less!

    1. We loved it! I cannot imagine the crowds if we were more in season! Leo said, towards the last part of March the direction of the sun is such, that you can take pictures of the sun beams coming through the openings. ☀️

  1. i have no words to describe these pictures! They are awesome! Thank you so much for taking us along on this amazing journey! DM
