Vagabond Tales- Death Valley…Hot, Dry & Low

February 24-25, 2025

We finally made it!
These clouds welcomed us as we drove into the park!
Only 8 full hook up sites here in Stove Pipe Wells- named for a length of pipe that was inserted into the ground, marking the location of a waterhole. Pretty important here. Harry reserved this site more than a year ago.
This morning we headed to Furnace Creek Visitor Center. Got our passports stamped and looked around. The tire above is one on a four wheeler that got stranded. The tire is melted onto the rim. It was 86 degrees today. Silver, gold, zinc, talc, tungsten and borax were mined in Death Valley. Animals are not real in this collage but statues.

Second stop- Badwater Basin 282 feet below sea level along with the beautiful Salt-flats. We walked out onto them. Lower right picture shows a bus driver making his bus load of Asian visitors bang the salt out and off of their shoes before entering his bus.

Badwater Basin and the Salt Flats Panorama
A stop for California gas and ice cream!
Harry is standing under the red arrow. He is taking the panorama below!
Artist’s Drive Overlook

Artist’s Drive was up next! We both got out and walked a bit. Such a fun twisty, tight turning road!

The tiny coral speck is me taking the picture below. The mint green on the lower rocks seemed more vibrant in person.
Another cast iron dinner! Salsa chicken and cauliflower rice skillet. Another day in Death Valley tomorrow!
