Vagabond Tales-Parts of Chattanooga the Vagabonds Had Never Seen Before
March 4, 2024 Cloudland Canyon State Park, Rising Fawn, Georgia
Today we all went to town while Finn and Duke held down their respective forts at the campground.
Before lunch we headed over to CHI Memorial Hospital, where Suzanne had to have blood drawn. She goes in for surgery on Wednesday when she gets back from camping! We admire their “Let’s adventure” attitude even with pending surgeries planned!
CHI MemorialLittle did they know we had dropped them off at the wrong entrance and they would be taking a tour of the facility to get to their final destination. She deposited her blood and we headed off for lunch. We shared a plate of beignets at the Daily Ration…I think I could have just had them for my lunch! So scrumptious! Can you guess which plate was mine? All were delicious but none were diet conscious foods. If you really know me…you will get it right!
Raccoon Mountain TVA Pumped Storage Facility
This is TVA’s largest hydroelectric project. They pump water from the base of the mountain and fill this lake up in 28 hours!
They pump through this 250 foot tower during low demand and then empty the lake during peak demand through the same tower with turbines at the bottom of the tower. Like filling up a sink and then pull the drain plug. This sink holds 107 billion gallons of water!
This is a technological wonder.
This is the top of the tower with only 1 1/2 openings yet to fill. You should look this up and read about it! There is a video of the project that is very interesting! They had a whole group of nay-sayers when they proposed this project that they needed to convince. So cool!
Sounds like a very full day! Have fun. M.E.
