Vagabond Tales- Ask…Do Dogs Have Elbows?

February 1, 2024 Croft State Park, Spartanburg, SC

For breakfast I had some delicious granola with my yogurt. Our friend, Ruth Ann gave us some before we left. Delicious! And thank you. The only question I have, should you feel guilty for eating fruit that has been rescued?

A beautiful day meant a great hike around Edwin W Johnson Lake. Once again I had to peel layers as the hike went on. We had to ford a few creeks feeding into the lake. One was particularly deep…maybe 12”. I crossed first and just figured Finn would cross on his own. As I was telling Harry I thought Finn would get wet to his elbows, I turned around and saw this…

I was shocked he had picked all 63 pounds of him up…thought we would just let him cross on his own but Harry said…I saw the sand on the other side and didn’t want him to get wet, caked sand all over his legs, (elbows), feet, and toes. We’d have to bathe him.

I really think he had ulterior motives in mind…saving the floors of our new-to-us Ford truck. We sadly traded our gray truck about two weeks before we left. He was just costing too much to keep around! He had become unreliable. Hopefully this big guy will help us remain on the road.

No sandy floors yet!

We saw two people as we approached this hike and one as we were leaving. Other than that…we had the trail to ourselves!

  1. The campground trails look gorgeous. I can’t believe Harry picked Finn up and carried him over the creek! BUT I don’t blame him for not wanting sand in the truck or the camper. You just can’t get rid of it😆!
