Vagabond Tales- Nothing Planned Happened
August 21, 2023 Oxnard, California
Just an FYI…Seals do bark all night long. Harry took his hearing aids out so last night was pretty quiet for him. I, on the other hand, heard every yip and bark. Here’s the scoop. These two piers are being renovated and when the workers left for the weekend, the seals moved in for a lazy weekend of play and relaxation. This morning the workers came bright and early and shooed them off with loud claps and whistles. Although the seals were not very chipper about the new rules…they jumped off and that is when I captured this picture of one on our morning walk.
The seals are back tonight. Lots of silly shenanigans going on and, of course, BARKING.Our walk views along with the workers, whose job it was, was to remove the seals so that everyone could work.
We enjoy going into the visitor centers of each national park, looking around at the displays and watching the informational video. This video was supposed to be extra special so we headed over there after our walk.
Unknown to us…due to Hurricane Hillary, the workers had been given Saturday, Sunday and Monday off so they could shelter in place. They will be open tomorrow but we are slated for a boat trip out to one of the islands.Harry found a brochure about President Ronald Reagan’s Library nearby, so we headed there. It made for a very interesting day. As you can see, the clouds finally lifted and we had gorgeous weather. While I took this picture, one of the security men at the library was patching up Harry’s arm that he had scratched and had sprung a leak of blood dripping off of his arm and down onto his hands. The portrait on the bottom right is made of butterfly wings and famed with some type of nut. Probably one of the most fascinating things about this library is that it houses Air Force 1. It was placed on sight and the building was built around it. We could not take any pictures of the inside for security reasons, but we were able to walk through it. Very interesting! To see this in person, was very touching! The Gold Star Families Memorial.Standing in a replica of the South Lawn, donated by Merv Griffin.
After this, we had a short while until dinner, so we walked around Heritage Square. Heritage Square began in 1985 as a vision to preserve the historical and architectural uniqueness of turn of the century Oxnard.
They are great in the morning! They brought more guys this morning to scare them off. Looks like Death Valley may be a no go so we are scrambling to find a place to go.
Great info. The seals make me laugh, it looked cute, but I’m sure their barking is annoying. lol
Ronald Reagan – one of my favorite US Presidents – I would have loved to see that museum. Great pictures to see some of it.
Looked liked blue skies in the later part of your day. Thanks for sharing. Fun stuff. Safe travels to the next area. hugs and love
An unplanned day that looks fun. I really like the seal picture! (cute but I’m sure loud and obnoxious)
