Vagabond Tales- Have Another Bark Ranger

February 16, 2023 Manatee Springs State Park Chiefland, Florida Site 58

We couldn’t believe at such a young age he could accomplish such a feat!
We are so very proud!

In addition to the ceremonious honors conferred on Finn, the three of us walked two terrific trails and saw only two other individuals hiking. Pretty cool. This morning we walked Scenic Trail.

This was one of Finn’s requirement to make Bark Ranger. He had to visit the Seminole Chickee hut.
These Vagabonds learned a new trick. Our grandchildren would be proud.
1. Find something to lean your camera on. A log.
2. Put the timer on and run to position.
3. Smile
We spent quite a bit of time down at the springs and our patience paid off. Several manatee came floating into the warm water of the springs.
We were unable to get as close to them as we did last time
but it is always a thrill! There are two here…a mom and her baby.
They allow swimming in the springs. There were scuba divers at the far end.
I thought this was pretty artistic drift wood with the flower but only realized after I took it there was a snake coiled up sunning himself…about Four o’clock on the picture.
A great display of Cyprus knees…the little knobs coming out of the water. Harry’s mom had one that had been cut and polished she always used as a door-stop. I think his, sister, Faith has it now.
Second trail…Finn and Harry are in the background waiting to get started.
Some hickory hearts I collected!
Sunset on the boardwalk.

  1. Great pics!!! Way to go Finn…so smart! And fun!
Saw the snake as I zoomed into your artist picture, kinda scary.
I just learned about Cyprus knees yesterday here in Naples, FL. 👍
    Love you guys

  2. So I am impressed with the photoshop skills. Used to paint Santa Claus on those knees. Sold quite a few! They were really pretty bad!
