Vagabond Tales- Did Not Leave the Smoke Behind

September 9, 2022 Ellensburg, Washington Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park. Site 8

We did find a campground that had space tonight about three hours away, so we left Howard Miller Steelhead Park a day early. We had hoped we would escape the smoke but it seemed to follow us. It is, oh so much better here but when you leave the camper you can smell the smoke on the air and there is a haze over everything!

Site 8…I spent quite a bit of time picking up pine cones and throwing them out at the back of our site in the tall weeds and sage. Finn has a tendency to secret them in his mouth while we are walking him and they end up in his bed to snack on later.
Finn doesn’t like me to hang back and take pictures. He checks on me often.
Lake Wanapum with a bit of smoke
They have some wonderful places to walk your dogs here! I am chigger shy so didn’t walk too far on this lush green stuff for fear it might hide those pesky arachnids.
We hope to check out the Petrified Ginko forest tomorrow morning. We have a pull- through site and Harry didn’t have to unhook. Tomorrow we will pull the camper over to their parking area and take a hike while the temperatures are cooler.

  1. I am not sure I was successful in posting a comment. I had fun catching up on your travels and meeting Finn. We leave next week for a month long trek towards Maine with our good friends the Carlsons. Happy Trails Suzanne
