Vagabond Tales- To the Moon and Beyond

Upon leaving the Tetons this morning, this elk bade us good-bye!
Something to think about. They must have done it out in the middle of nowhere in case there was an accident. Our campground is in this city.
When driving into Arco, this mountain caught our attention. It is called Number Hill. Evidently, every senior class since the 1920 graduating class paints their year high on the mountain in their school colors to show school spirit!
Not really a National park but it became a national monument in 1924.
So it is a year older than my mother and she is 97.

The 750,000 acres of Craters of the Moon is an ocean of lava flows with cinder cones scattered around among the sagebrush.

This is the inferno Cone…you can hike up. It is 6181 in elevation at the top!
It was very windy at the top.
Vegetation is beginning to take root at the top of the cone.
The formation behind this bench is a splatter cone.

A close up of the splatter cone. It is more fragile than it looks so you truly must stay on the trails.
The three of us were excited to put our Idaho sticker on tonight! Tomorrow will be Finn’s weigh in day. I’m thinking I won’t be picking him up much longer!
