Vagabond Tales- Stand in Long Lines

March 30, 2022. Charleston, SC

Harry purchased tickets in advance to attend the Historic Charleston Foundation’s Festival of Houses and Gardens. Several other people had the same idea…Lines were long and the waits seemed to be even longer! Our tickets were good for 5:00-8:00 pm. We made the mistake of going into town before lunch. So we walked and looked and walked and looked some more. Harry suggested a horse and wagon tour , which helped to make the time go faster and helped us reduce the number of steps added to our day’s record.

We stopped by the Dare Gallery to see our friend, Monique Carr’s art work on display. She and her work are amazing
Meet Mikey! He is our horse for the tour! Easy going and very strong!
Lunch at Hyman’s Seafood. Neil Young, Patty LaBelle, Lindsey Wagner and Jeff Hardy had all eaten at our very same table! Lunch was FRIED…Good thing we did a lot of walking!
We stepped into Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church! So very beautiful! The starry ceiling was especially lovely!
This was our first line we stood in for the Festival. This group stood around outside waiting for over 15 minutes and we thought that was LONG! We were to later find out that this was to be our shortest and
least amount of time spent waiting to go into the homes.

I took way too many pictures to include so I
will share just a few representative shots.
Note the two chimneys…This building and the one next door belonged to a cooper’s business back in the 1800’s and, of course, is now a residence and their beautiful garden.
Our speaker was the owner of the house, which made her stories much more personal than some of the others who had volunteers from the society guiding us.

  1. That looks like a beautiful day – in town, house tours and gardens and even a carriage ride with a sweet horse! – Great pictures of what you posted. Safe travels home. Love you guys.

  2. We did that tour many times when we lived in S.C. Lines are inevitably long but the homes are so gorgeous! Thanks for the memories. Pics are great. M.E.

      1. Loved the pics!! I do seem to remember several of them. Especially the gardens. Wonderful!
