Vagabond Tales- Love Garden Trolls

September 23, 2021. Boothbay, Maine

Finding one of our favorite artist, Thomas Dambo had left some of his trolls in Boothbay Maine at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens…we just had to make a shift in our plans to see some of his newest creations. They are hidden in and around the 248 acres of gardens which boasts over a mile of waterfront. I would like to have a year round pass and come back to these woods and gardens to see and enjoy all four seasons!

We didn’t walk all 200 or more acres of the gardens
but we did walk around four miles today
The flowers were spectacular. Don’t know what I am doing wrong but things that had finished blooming at our home the end of June, we’re just now blooming up here!
My sister-in-law, Ruth has been growing a beautiful hibiscus…it is dinner plate size. Ruth I thought you might like to see this Midnight Marvel! It wasn’t nearly,as large as, a dinner plate.

We have a pair of fairies or pixies living in our home. Their names are Ike and Izzy. Our grandchildren can tell you all about them. They communicate regularly to our house guests, if they can find the entrance to their home and communicate by notes to them first. Otherwise, they present no problems at all living in our home. We thought this place might just be up their ally….a place to vacation.

Visitors to the gardens are invited to build their own fairy construction.
You would be surprised how large this fairy world is.

Guardians of the Seeds …. by Thomas Dambo

Look closely into the wooded area!
Their faces show a full range of emotion.
The yellow hued wood around her face comes from friend’s of Dambo who were replacing their wooden floors in their home in Copenhagen. They gifted him with the old plank flooring to recycle in his work.
The park has decided to keep these trolls up until they deteriorate. Thomas says the lifespan of a troll is about 5-6 years.
We sat for a moment and enjoyed the view and
then went in search of the last two troll creations!
One of the ladies looking at this Gro at the same time remarked, “ If you look at the planes of this trolls face…it looks like he has a Covid mask on.” Don’t really know if I can spot that or not. Maybe you can.
In all his structures, this is the only one he has used recycled metal support inside. Both the outstretched arm and leg have the extra support. I could have used some of that support for this pose.
I love her hair!

***Our Contest winner will be revealed in the video below. You must click into the actual blog to watch it and see who the lucky winner was.

The winner will receive their prize in the mail.
A campsite with the additional benefit of being able to
walk over and eat a brick oven made pizza.
These were planted right outside our camper door. I love sunflowers!
Saw this little guy at the restaurant!
Faith…I thought of you! You need him for Chuck’s garden.
And now to get to bed early! Goodnight sweet friends and family!

  1. I can’t believe you are in Boothbay Harbor!!! You know we lived in Harpswell, ME for many years and Faith etal visited us there. And my hubby, Paul, grew up in Presquile after his family immigrated from France. There are sooo many wonderful things to see around there. And a little sailing cruise from Boothbay is great too. Have a great time. M.E.

  2. Those are fantastic pics! Love the one of you two on the rock looking out over the lake. Adorable! Great gardens, looks like spring up there! Great catching up on where you are…love the smiles.

  3. Thanks for sharing more Dambo trolls. I’m jealous.

You’ve now positioned yourselves enough to the east that a route via Conway and Kangamagus Highway seems possible.

Hope the foliage turns beautiful for you.

    1. Thank you, Dan! Aren’t these Trolls amazing! Reminds me just a bit of Patrick Doughert’s dwellings. I guess how naturally they fit into the environment. It has been surprising how few trees have changed up here! We are a few weeks too early! Calling for 90% rain today.

  4. I now know where BigFoot lives! Those are absolutely amazing. I would love to watch him when he is sculpting one of them.
As usual your pictures are amazing! I love the one of you and Harry sitting on the rock looking out over the water. I was wondering who you the picture?
    Dave said, maybe Onyx! Lol😂😂
    Be safe
    Love you guys

    1. I took a picture of another couple on the rock…and they offered to take ours! 😀. They had signs up at these gardens saying…Leave your pets at home! Unfortunately, Onyx listened to country music back at the camper!
