Picture just for you, Mary Ellen!
We hiked a bit last night and then most of the day today. This is one, wild and crazy canyon! The steep walls of the Black Canyon range in depth from 2700 feet north of Warner point to 1750 feet. There are places that are less than a quarter-mile across..

We opted for many short hikes around the rim rather than going down into the canyon. Besides both of us feeling the altitude…Going down into the Black Canyon required a permit, a short talk with a Ranger, it takes all day, the trails are unimproved and the kicker, for me at least, somewhere on that trail you had to navigate an 80 foot chain welded into the rock face.😳
So, the following shots are from various vantage points around the rim.

Have you heard of a sun dog? Years ago my good friend, Karol Lynn, introduced me to this phenomenon while on a plant scavenging trip.
Sometimes they are white but this time they were beautiful colors. The difference between a Sundog and a rainbow is that a rainbow usually is seen after the rain. A Sundog usually is predicting rain or snow in the near future. We certainly hope it is not snow!

What beautiful pictures!

Wouldn’t have know what I was looking at in the sky without your introduction!

Such a contrast to the oranges and rusts of Arches!
I had never heard of sundogs. Astonishing! I got chills just looking down into that canyon so I’m glad you used good judgment! Thanks for the phone pic. No one would believe me..
I really do get nervous around high places! Been around a lot of them lately!
I guess in these out of the way places a pay phone is necessary!❤️
I had never heard of a sundog….neat. Great pictures of your day. It’s amazing seeing those canyons; the depths and details. God is an amazing Creator, detailed and awesome.
It was a beautiful day! Should you go one day… Do the Cedar Point rim overlook! We could have been there for hours! God is the more creative than we know!
