Vagabond Tales-Have a Hair-Raising Day

April 26, 2021. Baker, Nevada- the farthest west we will be on this trip.

I tell you, my hair was perfectly normal until our experience this morning happened! But now I look like this! Only time will tell if I can get it tamed.

I’m smiling now but. Thankful for God’s protection!

When leaving a campground Harry and I have, sort of, a division of labor. I wrap things up tightening down the hatches and putting things away, cleaning the bathroom, changing out towels, sweeping and washing our floors and bringing in the slide. While I am doing that, Harry is hooking up the camper, taking levelers up, moving the chucks from the tires, unhooking the electricity, sewer, water.and so forth. He really does the lion share.

This morning all the lights went off and I immediately smelled smoke. This was out of the normal! I ran out of the camper to find Harry on the ground trying to beat out the fire…right by the propane tanks ,I will say. He yelled for me to get in the door. What???? No way was I getting in the truck or the camper. I grabbed our fire extinguisher and we were able to get the fire stopped. We definitely had our neighbor’s attention! What had happened was when Harry set the truck hitch down on the camper tongue, evidently an electric wire got pinched and shorted out. Let this serve as a reminder…check your extinguishers regularly to make sure they are in date compliance. Thankfully ours was! You will need to use it when you least expect it.

This is my recreation of what I saw when
I came around the corner?..minus the extinguisher.
My hair was already white…and now it is standing on end!

Shhhh! Please don’t tell my Mom or our kids! This would make them crazier with worry than they already are!

Although, we drove 2 hours out of the way we did manage to find some wonderful guys to help install Harry’s souvenir. A new electric tongue Jack, it is the shiny black thing with the orange wire.
Something he has always wanted!
And one souvenir wasn’t enough…
he had two new towing shock absorbers installed, too!
This was a long day but we were happy to see this sign!
Oh, give me a home where the Buffalo roam and the deer and the antelope play. This was open range, Bulls just standing by the side of the road, no fences and we did see an antelope running across the plain.
Tomorrow …The Great Basin!

If you’re the praying sort…would you please offer up a prayer of thanksgiving for the providence of God this morning! We know it could have been a totally different outcome so easily!

  1. I am so thankful for God’s care and that you all are okay!! You all have been in my prayers and that will continue!! Love you!

  2. Don’t tell the kids….too late. A blog isn’t the way to keep something on the down low. I am so thankful that you are both safe and unharmed. Scary stuff.

  3. That gave me the shivers!!! The first thing I thought about was your Sunday post about your preacher pointing at YOU!! Stay safe. No more disasters!!!!!!!
