Vagabond Tales- Yellow Mustard and Soy Sauce Don’t Make Good Air Fresheners

Cedar City, Utah-April 24, 2021

Today was a travel day. I have a few drive- by shots and a couple stories to share. It was another beautiful day but the skies were filled with clouds. They say we are in for a windy night and tomorrow… maybe some flurries.

Our Utah sticker. Always advertising our River bracelets everywhere I go.
This was in Northern Arizona and I don’t know the name of this formation. Perhaps we could name it like we do when we gaze up at clouds.
We stopped here for a lunch break. We chose not to go down exploring because the road looked sandy and we have had enough of that!

While Harry was in the camper…I walked over to take the picture above, before I knew it I had a little short young man running up to me! He was joyous! He could not contain himself! Jumping up and down, pulling his long hair that had escaped his pony tail, he kept saying, “Ay Caramba! Ay Caramba! I can’t believe it!“. I said something to the effect that it was a beautiful view, wasn’t it? Still hardly containing himself, He said, “ I was just a little Filipino boy watching TV at home in the Philippines…never did I think I would see John Wayne land!” Then he ran back and jumped into his car and drove off like a cowboy chasing the bad guys! Joy is infectious! I walked away smiling.

Mother Teresa said once, “ Joy is infectious. Therefore, be joyous!”

We went over another pass today and we found snow. We both decided we were happy it wasn’t snowing when we went through. Notice the color change in the rocks here. Center picture…trees with the white trunks…Aspen?
Cedar Canyon Retreat….site 18.

Coming in this afternoon we drove right by our campground. We must have been too engrossed in our book on tape that we didn’t hear Siri screaming at us to make a U- turn until we had gone 30 minutes out of our way. Once here we had sort of a CABAL hit us. Harry couldn’t get our trailer tongue jack to raise high enough to release the camper from the truck hitch. Since our little muddin’ escapade in Kansas it had been acting up but today it just gave up and died. My personal MacGyver used the truck tire Jack and was able to separate the truck from the camper. I am afraid now we will be looking for a camper dealer to replace it.

No sooner had we taken Onyx out of the truck she was attacked by a big ferocious yellow dog named, Mille, who happened to be off lead. Whoever named that dog needed to dig a little deeper! Maybe, Fang or Bruiser would have been more appropriate. We were able to get them separated and Onyx wasn’t any worse for wear but we were all shaken up a bit. By the way, the owner about got bit by her dog when she grabbed it by the tail.

Usually we don’t go into the camper when we get into our site until we get everything unhooked and levelers down. I was the first to step in…the odor, oh, man the odor…It just hit you in the face…soy sauce and yellow mustard..enough to sting my eyes and then I saw it…the refrigerator door was hanging open and we had leftovers , many containers and bottles all over the floor throughout the space. The lid was loose on that bottle of soy sauce, it might as well have been off for as much sauce was splattered throughout the camper…and the mustard…oh the mustard..it got trapped in the hinge of the door and evidently every time we made a turn or went over bumps the door swung open and closed it spewed forth another steam of yellow mustard. At least we were able to save a little bit of mustard for our hamburgers tonight.

This is a picture from the Overlook Trail in our campground.

We are in fine shape…all in a camper’s day!

  1. I’m sorry for the messy accident in your camper, but had to laugh as I pictured the mustard bottle being squeezed at every curve and shooting mustard everywhere. In fact, I am laughing now. Thanks for the chuckle!

  2. Sounds like a Chevy Chase kind of adventure day from Vacation 😀. Glad you made it safely and that Onyx is alright.
