We visited The Hovenweep National Monument today. It was a bit out of the way but well worth the trip. It is a Paiute and Ute word meaning , deserted valley. It was given its name in 1847 by pioneer photographer, William H. Jackson. It is difficult to imagine what this quiet solitary place would be like with the canyon walls echoing with the sounds of laughter and cries from hundreds of men, women and children just going about their daily life.

but neither of us dressed for it.
This monument is made up of six separate units spread out over a 20 mile stretch of Mesa tops. Luckily we could hike a short 2 miles around this canyon and take in many of them. We marveled at the workmanship and resourcefulness these peoples used to build multi- story towers perched on the edge of the cliffs, withstanding all of the elements to still be in great shape today.

Too many good ones to choose from!

The Scenery Driving to Monument Valley, Utah Was Jaw Dropping

our big disappointment tomorrow!
Beautiful pictures. Very unique landscapes. Graycen ran hurdles and relay again tonight. Last meet of the year. Spencer had a band concert. The girls both have a gymnastics meet on Sunday. Busy days. Love you both.
You do have busy days but it won’t always be this way. If you can…just soak it in! These are fun packed times and you are building memories! Love you all dearly!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
