This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24. We started off the day joining our home church on line.
We packed a small lunch and headed out for the Great Sand Dunes. The mountains are still brilliant clothed in white of yesterday’s snow.
You could see them from miles away.
These are the tallest dunes in North America.
We had a crazy time getting the selfie stick to work so
we just used Harry’s long arm. The weather was much nicer today in the upper forties! Great hiking weather!
Below I am showing a special vehicle you can rent to take someone who cannot walk easily in the sand. I think it is so cool!
Never knew they had anything like it!
We would have loved one of these to use with our moms!
So we thought this was a great idea..hike the
Overlook to see the full field of dunes. It was only a mile each way but… if you have an overlook that means you must climb UP!
All but the first picture on the top left were taken at the Overlook Point which sits at an elevation of 8,561 feet. We could feel the air thinning as we climbed because it is 6,251 feet higher than our home in Tennessee
and we are pretty high!
This is snowmelt. Had to walk through it to get to climb the dunes.
Yes, we have camped in Colorado now!

The name of the campground we are staying in is Sand Dunes Recreation. It is pretty quirky but when you get here it makes perfect sense! It is built around a hot springs swimming pool and the locals visit it regularly. Harry really cannot do the hot temperatures so rather than pay the $30.00 admission, we took a tour of it and I was the nosey lady taking pictures of people in their swimming suits! Boy was it crowded! The water runs about 90 degrees. They also have soaking tubs…the highest in temperature was 110 degrees. If we were there with kids…no doubt we would have had to make a visit to the hot springs. But as it is we passed!

They change the water out completely every Thursday.

***So your contest question for today- and due by 12:00 midnight eastern standard time on April 19- What is the elevation of our house back in good old Tennessee? We will be waiting for your answers!
