LONG…because these ran all night going two different directions and heralding their arrival with whistle blasts as they neared the crossing close- by.

Harry took his hearing aids out to go to bed and never heard a train.
SHORT because we had to leave by 9:00 am since the Mississippi was only a foot from breaching the only road in and out of our loop.

We arrived in Manhattan, Kansas…our old stomping ground at 7:00 tonight. ‘Twas a long driving day. We are staying at River Pond DGC, Tuttle Creek State Park.

Beautiful! Our neighbors are in the next photo!

We lived in Manhattan in 1975-76. Harry was working with the Cable TV Company and as an award for some public service, he was made an honorary Admiral in the Tuttle Creek Navy (a local distinction). Our son Ryan was also born here. We’re going to do a little time traveling tomorrow and see if we can find some old memories.
Trains and Floods! The trip is off to a great start 🙂 Kansas sounds more promising!
Guess we have to take the good with the bad!😅❤️
So far, I am not envious. Hope you find somewhere beautiful soon. Dan
Ha! Perhaps I can snap a prairie picture that will win you over soon! Gotta go through the flat lands before we get to our first national park! We are hoping to find the first home we ever owned today and see the changes around Manhattan. It was a good few years for us early in our marriage!
Perhaps you could find some Rock Chalk or photograph a live Jayhawk.
We will see what we can do 😄…the day is young here! It will be an adventure!
Sorry. I confused Manhatten with Lawrence. You’re not likely to find Jayhawks anywhere near K-State.
But…they do have an insect museum on K State’s campus. 👀.
