Vagabond Tales- A Short drive to see Thomas Dambo And Pete Nelson’s Constructions

Not far away, at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park resides the artistic creations of one artist I have just recently discovered, Thomas Dambo and another, Pete Nelson, who I have admired and I still continue to watch his shows on TV.

Meet Snorra of the Suwannee! I was disappointed that the sculpture was painted. Most of Dambo’s work is left natural and fits into the surrounds better in my opinion. Snorra was constructed in 2015 for the Suwannee Halloween Festival. Dambo wanted the troll to look as if he had just crawled out of the swampy lagoon behind him. The inset picture is how the artist left him at completion and it is very obvious from pictures on-line, and what we saw today that Snorra has been painted many times over.
Small lagoon directly behind the sculpture.
Picture with me beside him, just to show you size. But this one is miniature compared to other pieces he has completed. He builds his troll sculptures using reclaimed wood and objects. You should look him up. His pieces are amazing. We will definitely be on the lookout 👀 for more of his artwork! Just so you don’t think we are crazy…These are pictures my sister, Laurie Gresser took this winter of one of the Trolls displayed at The Morton Arboretum. This started us on the search!
Craig and Laurie Gresser…snowshoers extraordinaire!

Two of Pete Nelson’s creations from The “Treehouse Masters” are located in this park.

This one is built in the midst of some palms but not really in the trees.
Now…this one is located right beside the Suwannee and is built using a grand live oak for its structure!
I think this would look great on the side of our mountain!
We drove to this park…not more than 20 minutes from the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. Known for its hiking trails, we were lured here to check them out. Most of these parks are not manning their check-in booths. This one had a sign that said…pay the Iron Ranger. WHO??? Picture of Iron Ranger below. Certainly no one to ask questions or give warnings about trail status.
Iron Ranger
Waters are high now but this pole has the flood levels for different years.

Why was absolutely NO ONE hiking on this hike with us? No one passed us coming or going. We were planning on only traveling on one trail but because of course conditions…we walked some of each trail. Very confusing finding our way out… went here, flooded, turn around, go on another path…flooded, take another side trail- flooded, turn around…what was to be a short hike turned into 9,672 steps!

Four different paths were blocked!
Harry encouraged me to go across the bridge first! Ah…I’ve lived with him long enough…I did not fall for it…he was just trying to throw me to the alligators!
