Vagabond Tales- Shucks! Forgot Our Climbing Gear!

Joshua Tree National Park

It was very difficult to get scenery pictures without strangers in them today. This park is the most crowded we have been to on this trip.
Meet the Joshua Tree. Certainly not endangered. The ranger told us there was over a million in the park.

What do you call a plant that must be damaged to reproduce? That needs a moth to make seeds? Is home and restaurant to birds? And continues to house and feed reptiles and insects after it dies? It is the Mojave Desert’s tree of life- the Joshua Tree.

The Tree got it’s name from a band of Mormons making a exodus west mid 19th century. They felt the tree’s silhouette appear to take on human form. It’s extended branches reminded them of Joshua with outstretched arms leading his people to the Promised Land.

I tried to see Joshua in these trees but my imagination quit on me.

Even more exciting than the trees were the rock formations and piles of boulders. We witnessed a lot of climbing unaided and with climbing ropes. Pretty exciting. The one picture below of Harry is as high as we climbed.

We could see great distances from Keys View.
We were right up there with the clouds!
Cholla Cactus Garden
Harry got one of these stuck to his shoe. He was able to shake it off without touching it. They had several first aid kits locked to posts since many people back up into these and they are tough to get out.
Not the kind of cactus we were supposed to be looking for but I couldn’t resist the pink!
