Vagabond Tales- And the Winner is….

These are the mountains we drove through yesterday
afternoon and what they looked like this morning.
So fortunate we got off those mountains before it was like this!

This morning started off with me surprising myself and Harry by me being sick… won’t give you TMI but suffice it to say…don’t think I have had stomach issues since I was pregnant.

Our plan for the day had been doing laundry, grocery shopping and a hike. Harry took that task on by himself at the cleanest laundromat he’d ever been in and I slept for most the day. Still feeling a bit off tonight. When he arrived back we all went for a brief tour and hike of Fort Seldon. I was still feeling a bit squirrelly but thought we should get Onyx our for a bit of a romp.

So very thankful to Harry and for clean clothes!
These folks were so nice they let us bring Onyx
into the building. They gave her a treat and fussed over her.

Fort Selden..as you can see by my photos, the fort is in ruins. Over the years the Adobe walls have melted away from weather and lack of preservation. About 1800 soldiers served at the fort during its operation. It was established in 1865 and it’s very last year of occupancy was 1891.

Before you are the officer’s quarters.
We found it fascinating that Douglas MacArthur spent his young boyhood in the officer’s quarters with his father who served here and his family lived in government quarters.
A total of 400 Buffalo soldiers served at Fort Selden.
These soldiers served in African American only units..
Close- up view of adobe. Clay/dirt, sand, organic material like straw plus water and sun all work together to make up Adobe bricks.

And the Winner Is…

  1. Yesssss!! Victory is so sweet! Tell Nathan that his 20 bucks are in the mail 😀.

The sky sure was a beautiful shade of blue for your pictures today.

  2. Hope you are feeling much better and that Harry doesn’t get it. Beautiful mountains. Can’t believe you drove through them!

    1. Glad that you recovered so quickly; it is never fun to be sick, but especially when not at home.
