Vagabond Tales- You May Be in New Mexico If You Grocery Shop with a Mariachi Band

These dudes were all over the store. Just wish they had their big hats on!
That map is filling up!

Had a more relaxing day. Didn’t leave camp until after lunch. Went grocery shopping with the band and visited the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in the town of Carlsbad. The weatherman was calling for high winds and we didn’t want to be too far away. Besides, a quieter day wouldn’t hurt us much! We are getting a bit of wind tonight but still have the slide out!😊

Our new bit of learning for today…
All cacti are succulents but all succulents are not cacti.

In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.

The park overlooks the town of Carlsbad. Love the blue skies here!

As I have grown older, I like zoos less and less. I know they do so much for education and strive to help with animals who are endangered but… I saw many sad faces looking at me through bars today.

Every park we have visited so far has warned we might see these javelinas in and around the campsite but we saw them here first.
The bird was one of many in the atrium!
I really love this carpet as artwork on the wall but
the animal above…not so much!

  1. Love the desert plants. When we were in LA my favorite part of the Los Angeles Arboretum was the desert section. What great photos.

    1. Thank you so much, Ruth! Just like you , I seem to be the designated photographer and I love to do it! Thanks for following along.

You will love this…last night we had our screen door shut but the main door open because it was nice out. As it cooled, Harry decided to shut the main door. To do that he needed to open the screen…due to the lights on in the camper when he opened it we got about a million flying insects zooming into our living space. ( I might be exaggerating a bit.) Took a long time to rid the inside from bugs. Even Onyx was vexed by them. I remember Brian saying he was putting screens back on , on a particularly warm day this winter due to the bugs.

  2. Great great pictures! Can you imagine falling into one of those plants!
    OUCH!!!! LOL
I agree with you about the zoo. 😞
Your map is feeling up fast. You should write a book about the adventures of The Vagabond Tales!

    1. Ruth Ann…I actually did fall into one ,I was growing from home, years ago. The cacti was about 4 feet high…my dad had started it and had shared with us. I lost my balance while cleaning one day and Harry spent a long time with tweezers removing them from my back and bum. To this day…I respect them and keep my distance. That is a difficult feat here. K.

  3. Ken said he knew that all cacti are succulents but not all succulents are cacti. Of course, I wouldn’t have a clue! HA! However, I would have loved to have heard the mariachi band! We got back from Ohio today and will update you at a later time. Glad you’re enjoying the journey.
