Vagabond Tales- Deep in the ❤️ of Texas

🎉ANNOUNCING the FIRST CONTEST OF THE TRIP!

We were to have another day and night at Cedar Ridge Park at Belton Lake but after realizing we had miscalculated our drive time tomorrow the decision was made to drive half the distance and stay the night at San Angelos State Park and leave tomorrow morning for Big Bend National Park. Our first National Park of the trip.

I loved seeing this. “Book Trade” box as soon as we drove in. *Check the trees out behind the box.

Although, you can see this plant growing at home in the mountains…It is unbelievable how almost every tree had it growing on it, as we drove by. Even the tree by our campsite was covered.

We don’t think we have ever camped where
there was more space between sites
This is a beautiful specimen of this parasite growing on these trees.

***So your tough question, to be entered for the drawing for a souvenir from Big Bend is this…What is this plant growing on the trees here in San Angelos? You must have your answer in by Midnight, Monday, February 24. The winner will be drawn on Tuesday with the winner being announced the same day. The last picture on this post will give you a hint.

We took a hike with Onyx. She got a bit close to the cacti and Harry had to take a couple spines out of her nose. Didn’t seem to bother her at all. She was too interested in everything around her. Even tracked down a kitty who was hiding under our camper when we arrived home.

Guess on this trip there may be more cacti pictures than fungi.😀

Dinner tonight…compliments of our Nutri Chef food saver. Such a great tool for anyone but for campers…almost a must. I cook before the trip and freeze in the food saver bags. Then, when we have had a particularly long day, I pull one out and defrost and cook. Today it bought me enough time to make a Chocolate Orange Braid for our dessert. Yum!

⬆️This is your hint…Entries must be dated by midnight Feb. 24.

      1. It took me a bit. A little research. Cute picture with you guys in front of that tree with ‘white honeysuckle’ growing on the top. Who took the picture? Onyx.

  1. Is it Mistletoe?
Your pictures are beautiful! Love seeing everything about your adventures.
Dave said to tell Harry to eat enough for him too, especially the ice cream!
Stay safe and know that we miss you guys, but are so glad that you are able to
    make this great adventure together!!!!!
    Love you all

    1. Have you down on the contest! Thanks for entering. We will have a sausage casserole tonight from Heather’s relative’s, Brother’s hogs. Did you know they have a store they are selling it out of now? Lot of flat dry country we are going through today. 2 hours out of Big Bend.

  2. I did not know that until one day last week, I asked Dave about the sausage and he told me they had a store selling all kinds of pork and beef products.
They have surely grown in the last few years. Their sausage is really good.
Everyone says that the area you guys are in now is very flat.
Continue your wonderful journey and keep in touch.
    We love you!💗😊
