Vagabond Tales- Armadillos, Good Friends and King Cake

We arrived yesterday afternoon at St. Bernard State Park right outside of New Orleans. Entertained our good friends Alf and Allison for dinner in the camper. Mosquitoes were a bit much for outside dinner.

Couldn’t figure out why the grass in our site was so chewed up?
Come to find out we were in a favorite campsite for armadillos. The ranger said they had seen up to 100 in a field at a time. Luckily, not while we were here.

We met Alf and Allison for a tour of Mardi Gras World in downtown New Orleans. This humongous building and equally large business is the mastermind of Blain Kern’s and is where many of the fantastic Madrid Gras floats are handcrafted and designed all year long. We followed that with a delicious lunch at the Gumbo Shop. We loved every minute of it !

This was pretty amazing! They have a 3-D router, named Pixie that can cut massive sheets of styrofoam. One of three in the country.

We topped off the evening with a delicious dinner with all four Nelson’s in their lovely home! They were gracious hosts and even helped test play Harry’s game of Campground Chaos. King Cake for dessert! Yum!

  1. That armadillo is adorable, but wouldn’t want 100 of them in one place!
Great pictures with friends in New Orleans – I love King Cake – yum!

  2. When my parents lived in Texas and we’d visit, we’d see dead armadillos on the road a lot like we see possums or raccoons in TN. Hope your friends enjoyed Campground Chaos as much as we did though Ken still hopes the skunk makes the cut for a final edition. Tell Harry to get out of New Orleans before those gals start throwing those colored beads! HA!

    1. We opted to spend time with the family rather than take in the parades that night! Too late for Onyx to be away from us. Did Ken want the skunk to make you throw your complete hand in? I can’t remember.

  3. So glad that you enjoyed your visit with your friends. I loved the pictures! How did they like Harry’s New game? Every day is a new adventure. Have a great time. We love you guys!!!
