We arrived in Grand Rapids, MN last night with a brand new hand crank tongue jack (our old one was electric) but we were some very tired campers. Our first plan was to camp beside our family’s lodge, located on a peninsula called Arrowhead Point on Lake Wabana but seeing as it was late, we were exhausted and we weren’t sure how or if we would be able to maneuver the camper in and around trees going in, we decided to stay in a campground 15 minutes away for the evening.
This am early we drove over to The Eldredge Lodge. It has been in our family for at least, 68 years. Since I will be 69 this year, I can’t remember a time when it wasn’t part of us. It is a magical place. We spent the day. Pictures are to follow.

If you look closely…you will see a steep trail on the right going up a hill and one, more worn and gently sloping up on the left. We would race our parents up to the house. We would take the steep one on the right and our parents would take the gentler one on the left. We usually beat them and when we burst through the door after an evening of fishing my Grandma Eldredge would have popcorn and hot cocoa ready for us. The only heat in this home is by fireplace or the cook stove in the kitchen so on chilly nights when we had trouble keeping warm, our Grandma E. heated up bricks, wrapped them in flannel and put them at the bottom of our beds. Aren’t memories awesome?

My favorite hike of all time! The trail to the tip of the Arrowhead. My Mother calls this part of the trail God’s Cathedral. The trees are so tall and the sky…so close.

You can see we are getting close to the tip of the arrowhead…water on both sides.

We took turns standing on the tip.

Onyx wasn’t sure about getting on the boat but in the end we think she liked it.

Wisconsin and Michigan …Tomorrow we will add Minnesota! Forgot to do that today!
Your family lodge is beautiful, and it looks so peaceful. Praying for you to have a wonderful visit. Will it just be you and Harry this time?
Yes…and of course, Onyx. Her first time ever there, since we usually fly in. Thought maybe we could have overlapped with my brother on one end and sister on the other but it didn’t work out this time.
Karen, your posts are all wonderful, but today’s was extra special! What wonderful memories you have off a special place and people. How blessed your childhood was!
Neat to see another Doberman out on the point! Always seemed to be the case when we visited.
How special.
Oh, how I remember the magic of that place !!!!
So many great memories and great pictures, then and now.
Thank you for sharing this adventure with us. We love the pictures and we love you guys. Be safe and keep enjoying your trip.
