Vagabond Tales- Flight over Lake Superior

Most of you know…Harry reserves our camping sites well in advance of our trip…sometimes 6 months or more before we go. This trip was no different…however, the campsite, Fort Wilkins,we are in right now was chosen so we would be close to the ferry that travels out to Isle Royale National Park. About 4 weeks before we left we were checking all of our connections and Harry said…”Whoa, I guess I need to make reservations for the ferry.” Well, there were no availabilities on the ferry for any of the days we would be in the area. Not to be discouraged, he called about seaplanes going out to the park. We were fortunate two seats were available and he took them. So bright and early this morning we drove an hour away to catch the plane to go over to the park. Beautiful day, minus a little shower while we were hiking. We flew out in a 7 seater and came back in a 4 seater. Pictures follow.

The main office. 😳.
All luggage is stowed away in the floats. We had only a backpack since we were day trippers.
A tight squeeze for all of us. Harry and I got the back.
Beautiful views from up here!

Only a slight drizzle while hiking. Lots of fungus!😍

This is where my family stayed when I was young. My brother, Rick and I played on these rocks.

Only Harry and I were on the plane trip home so he was our co-pilot!

  1. Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures and your adventure. Harry is a wonderful trip planner. I grew up in central Michigan and never saw Lake Superior as you have. KL

  2. The pictures of you and Harry are FABULOUS! The pictures of the scenery are beautiful! You two are very adventurous and really know how to have fun! I’m envious….but so happy you all get to do all this traveling together! Love you!
