Vagabond Tales-Make the Cut

Over the last week we had been commenting on our unkempt look so yesterday, March 19 we decided to do something about it. We found a salon who would take both of us….Wavelengths. We look much better but Wow…My hair is Short with a capital S. Rainy days are good for haircuts, a bit of shopping and just all round looking around. We visited both Zephyrhills and Lakeland…both are near Colt Creek Campground.

One of the places we noticed on the road as we were headed home was on the corner of Highway 98 and Old Dade City Road in Kathleen, Florida. It was a grotto with weird animal and human statues, a large oversized bird and dragon. I made Harry stop so I could snap a few pictures. So very strange. This is a private residence. When we arrived back I found the place mentioned on RoadsideAmerica.com.

Today was a lovely 70* and Onyx requested a hike. We took on part of a 10 mile bridle trail. It was so nice and wide. We didn’t see any horses but we did pass a biker along the way. Just some pictures on the hike.

I will have to look most of these wildflowers up other than the first pink thistle. Anyone recognize any of these?

We had seen many signs for alligators here but hadn’t seen any until today. They were fairly small comparatively.

How many can you spot in this picture? Look up at the brown bank at the top of the picture and then a short distance away in the lily pads. The picture below is a little garter snake sunning himself. Onyx wasn’t even interested in him.

We say goodbye to Colt Creek…headed to Manatee Springs in search of the illusive Manatee.

  1. I like the haircut, Karen, yours, too Harry.
The second flower looks like an orchid to me. Fun to see lots of new flowers.
    Hope you find manatees.
