Vagabond Tales- Have You Seen the Colorado River Do This?

February 7, 2025 Last day camping at Antelope Point

Today we headed out to see Horseshoe Bend, in Glen Canyon, only a thirty minute drive from Page, Arizona. Driving in, we saw maybe 20 other cars parked. I only mention this because, as we were hiking we had about 300 other people on the trail with us. It was a great hard-packed, wide trail but just too many people for Harry and I! For Finn, on the other hand, he was his prance-happy self, wanting to welcome everyone to hike along with him! Drove us CRAZY!

Now, this photo of Harry and Finn looks like I am an exaggerator but this is at the beginning of the hike and we were there with the 20 cars of people I mentioned above..before the bus loads of foreign travelers were dropped off!
The Colorado swirls around a 1,000-foot-high pedestal. It bends around and then flows back through the Southwest. Although they have a nice viewing area they warn you not to climb the rocks around the Colorado as there are no guardrails as you can see in the panorama below.
Don’t be the crazy guy to the left of the picture! So incredibly fool-hardy!

This was only a mile and a half hike. Only six months ago it would have been quite an easy hike for me but today combined with the length and the grade of the trail…it kicked my butt! On to boiler tubes!

We found this cool art installation in Page on Vista Avenue. I never did see the artist’s name or I would give him or her credit! It is definitely a unique representation of Antelope Canyon, where we visited yesterday, created with boiler tubes from a decommissioned power plant.

Speaking of Antelope Canyon…We’re going to post a picture below that we took yesterday from the canyon…if you can guess what the Navajo think this looks like, we will place you on the spinner wheel to win a surprise. This time you have until Sunday evening at 10:00 pm eastern standard time. You may enter by responding to the comments on this blog, texting Harry or me or emailing us. Tomorrow and Sunday we are dry camping and we cannot guarantee we will have signal so the results will come to you on Monday’s posting.

What spooky character do you see?

  1. Hello, LOVE your pics and comments as ‘we’ travel along!
In regard to the picture, I don’t see anything spooky, but I do see ribbons of chocolate mousse as I pour then into a trifle bowl…(you can see where my mind always lands)

I feel Finn is going to need to go back and pick up one of those burros for entertainment; HL is going to be pretty dull with just a few walkers and some ducks.

    1. Pat…I like the way you are thinking. chocolate trifle sounds scrumptious about now! Think scary, freaky movie. Then look at the picture! You have until Sunday to have your name on the wheel to get something from Antelope Canyon!😀
