Vagabond Tales- Jeeps, Dinosaur Tracks and Petroglyphs
A whole lot of shaking going on.

This morning we met Eva from Zion Jeep Tours. She drove us in and out of Zion. It was a beautiful morning, we were so glad we decided on the morning trip. This was a part of Zion we had never explored on our other two trips here. Eva had warned us to bring winter coats as we were going to be going up in elevation on this trek.Eva was very knowledgeable and we so enjoyed learning more geology. It is difficult not to be fascinated with tectonic plates, volcanic craters and igneus rock when you are in this gorgeous God breathed environment.
Although this was a Jeep tour, we did do some hiking. More than I have undertaken on this trip, a bit of rock scrambling but my knee held up!
I was a slow poke but I got it done! These are two of the many plants she identified and shared. The Beaver-tail cactus on the upper right was used by the native inhabitants for food source- buds are steamed and eaten, Seeds are ground into mush, fruit is dried, thorns removed and then eaten. All of the other pictures are of the juniper shrub/ tree. Used as flavoring for meats and stews. Lastly, you can see Eva wore many necklaces made from the seeds of the juniper. Native Americans felt they would ward off evil spirits! These foot prints travel right across the solid rock trail where we were walking . They are thought to be the fossilized foot prints of a Dilophosaurus.
Pretty amazing to walk along and just see these dart across your trail.
Not too far a drive away we were pleased to see these two petroglyphs .. Eva said not too long ago there were other symbols that unfortunately have been removed or have worn away since she has been guiding.
We arrived back to the camper in time for a wind and sand storm. 18 mph wind with gusts 30 and 40 mph. Our camper rattled and rolled for almost 3 hours. It was crazy! Even Finn didn’t like it! Eva had given Harry and I a neck gaiter to use if it got too dusty. We tried them out in the storm along with Finn.
Finn didn’t like his homemade gaiter nor the wind! Look at Harry’s hair blow!
Shopping Tip
We have purchased these in two different Walmarts in different areas. Don’t know if they are only available out west but if you like citrus! These are some of the best we have had. They are juicy and sweet, about the size of a Clementine! We have enjoyed them!
I am doing some of my knee strength ing exercises, as well but the uneven, rocky terrains give me a run for my money. Hope your trip with Leslie was fun! How was your Ryan Ted Talk?❤️
looks like a really fun day. Glad the knee held up! Love you
