Vagabond Tales- By the Time We Get to Phoenix We’ll Be Loco😵‍💫

February 21, 2025

Oasis RV Center…9 am sharp.

Made it to the repair place at 9:00 this morning! Richard made Harry get out and he drove Finn and I to the workshop area. Harry followed on foot…it wasn’t far…But it was weird!

Any time he needed the driving done…he did it himself. He was not easy to understand when he spoke. I just thought he was more of a mumbler but Harry said he didn’t have any teeth. Who knows? Dropping the camper off for propane line repair and we were to find…we also needed a new brake line. David, the first guy yesterday, had really just tacked it up and Richard felt he needed to fix it properly. So we set off to explore Tucson but not too far afield because we wanted to be close-by when they called. ( I snuck this picture while Richard was figuring out the truck .)
We drove under this bridge. It’s called the Rattlesnake Bridge. We twisted around several roads and found Iron Horse Park, where the Rattlesnake resides.
Note his fangs in the bottom right picture.

We walked across the bridge over the four-lane. We had such a beautiful day to explore…81 degrees. Below is what we found on the other side of the bridge. And…wait for it…they had a motion detector and you heard the rattling of the snake tail.

The bluish star is where we heard the rattling. The black arrow is where three homeless guys were living. Creepy!

We saw some pretty murals while we waited. Aren’t they colorful?

Around noon Harry called Richard to see how the camper’s surgery was going. “Give us til 4,” he said. We were excited when we got a call at 3:30…it was done and ready to go.

Harry talked to the guys and said he still smelled propane but they said it just needed to air out. I got out with my cane after the fan had been running for 5 minutes…I smelled the propane faintly in the main cabin but when I opened the bathroom door. The wave of propane smell about knocked me over. Richard said it was the toilet, and that toilets could get strong smelling like that. But…Harry had just that morning flushed the system and I knew it wasn’t that. As we were thinking we would leave …he ran over and shut the propane off and said he wouldn’t let us go. He found quite a leak by the hot water heater…near the bath. So…

There are some things worse than camping in a “parking lot campground”.

We are spending the night in front of the Oasis. They will begin work tomorrow at 7:00 am. We are first on the list. We pray we will get to Phoenix tomorrow. What would have been three days, will be 1, if they can get this fixed.

As Richard drove Finn and I to the front of the building he gave me a compliment every girl wants to hear, “ Ma’am, you have a great nose!”

  1. I hate that you all are having those difficulties. Hope you get everything taken care of in the morning.

The rattlesnake bridge was very cool!😎

    1. I read about it…it was very controversial. The city engaged the artist and when it was presented in the newspaper there was a group who thought it was distasteful and presented the wrong impression of the town. In the end the city art commission and artist won.

  2. You two must have the patience of Job! What adventures, intended and not intended! But I love hearing about them’
