Vagabond Tales- Walked Against the Wind

February 4, Kissimmee Prairie Preserve Park ,Okeechobee, FL Site 19

Today was a VERY breezy day but we were bound and determined to take our walk. We took the Prairie Loop Trail.

It was part of the Florida National Scenic Trail.

Finn is actually a good little hiker! Still goes crazy if we pass another dog but he is learning! Today, without the breeze it just might have been too hot for him. Thanks to the cloud cover and the wind…he did a fine job! Yesterday I teased you with a far off shot of the swamp Jeep. We found it parked behind the ranger’s office today and thought you might like to see what we missed. So here it is! Bummer.

We passed this sculpture. After reading the label on it…we had to do some more research on the bird. It is a very sad story about how humans killed this social bird for sport and also farmers did not like them eating their grains and killed them. They were a bright tangerine with green wing feathers. It was our only indigenous parrot in the continental US.
We went out with Finn to see the sky during “red light” time and the moon was so bight it was difficult to take pictures without them being over exposed. We were able to see the space station go over our campground, as well! Pretty cool!
Florida palm and the man in the moon!
