Vagabond Tales-See Saint Augustine Via Trolley

January 31, 2023 Saint Augustine, Florida. Anastasia State Park

As per usual in campgrounds, the cell service is spotty. Just couldn’t get this uploaded last night. We had to come back into town to get it accomplished!

Old Trolly Tours…this was an easy and
economical way to see the city in a reasonable amount of time.

We found the history of Saint Augustine and the persona of Henry Flagler, the Industrialist and railroad magnet to be quite interesting!

Flagler College was established in 1968 in the Ponce de Leon hotel which was commissioned by Henry Flagler in 1888. Since Thomas Edison was his special friend, this building was one of the first hotels in the country wired from the onset.
Magnolia Avenue…voted one of the top 10 beautiful avenues in the US at one time. I don’t know if it is still on that list but the live oaks were beautiful.
Drawbridge going into the Fort, Castillo de San Marcos.
We are on the battery over looking the Matanzas River. As you can see, we had a beautiful day with temperatures in the 80’s.
This couple posed for their picture on the battlements, too!
This fort was burned down 9 times, if you can believe it. The first nine were built primarily of wood and in 1672 the Spanish rebuilt it out of coquina stone…which is comprised of tiny shells imbedded in limestone.
The courtyard had great acoustics! The ranger’s voice rang loud and clear as he told the stories of life in Castillo de San Marcos.

Several hours away from Finn was enough! Back at the camper, we donned our hiking boots and Finn set off to take us on the Marsh Trail, complete with little crabs ducking into their holes when they saw us coming. Harry and Finn spotted them and I just took their word for it .

Long shorts and hiking boots are definitely the fashion statement! Apologies to you, Chris and Ryan…almost as bad as Dad’s Teva socks!
Reflections of an egret.

This guy was busy plucking feathers from himself! He had a collection of several around him on the ground. After cropping the picture…we can only see the one.
