Vagabond Tales- Forts and Ports

September 5, 2022. Port Townsend, Washington Fort Worden St. Park. Site-70

***The Vagabond Wheel is filling up with names…If yours isn’t on it you have until Tuesday the 6th at 6 o’clock pm Pacific Time to get your answer in! If you missed it, you will find the question on yesterday’s blog.

We made the decision to not head into Olympic National Park today but to leave that for tomorrow. The Labor Day traffic at these parks has been horrendous. We are hoping tomorrow everyone else will have headed home to work. We shall see. We will try to be there bright and early!

So today…we took Finn on his longest hike to date around the fort. He did pretty well but did get a bit overheated even though it was only 65°.

Hiking up to Artillery Hill! Notice Finn is not out in front like Onyx used to be. He is more of a meander/hiker…you never know where he will be and that is not always good. He’s still a baby, after all, we keep reminding ourselves.
I never get tired of trees in a forest!
At the Tolles we had a great view of The Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Different entries at the Tolles.
Finn loves to run and sniff but is not too keen on reading plaques!
Finn met a new friend…Traveler. He was 14 and not very interested in making any memories!

Off to Port Townsend

It’s a pretty nice costal waterfront town.
This is eelgrass. It’s endangered and they are working to bring it back. It grows in a big group called meadows. It is found up and down the coastline. As host to many fish nurseries and aquatic animals and is an overall great place to hang out if you are a fish!
This restaurant was #1 on Trip Advisor for this town and it really lived up to its ranking. Excellent food and service. We were fortunate we got in without a reservation. It was really small.
Salmon fettuccini, chicken and prosciutto over angel hair and warm gingerbread with vanilla butter custard! Delightful!

  1. You are very near to one of our favorite places — La Push. Once, when living in Vancouver, we saw that “the mountains were out”. So we didn’t go to work but left for the Olympic peninsula. We stayed in a cabin at La Push and really enjoyed both the beach and the impressive rocks off shore. We’re jealous! 🤨

    1. Just got back from the park! It was glorious! A local applauded us for waiting til today to come both because of the traffic and she said this was the first clear day in the last seven! Wish we had time to stop at La Push! Sounds perfect!
