Vagabond Tales- Almost Jump In Crater Lake

August 30, 2022 Prospect, Oregon. Crater Lake Rv Site 50

Well, not really but it would have been refreshing on a day like today!

We walked around a small portion of the rim but with the heat we didn’t think hiking was advisable. We were also at 7,000 feet altitude and that sun feels hotter
One more National Park!
Wizard Island is pictured middle top of the photo…a peak that was generated from a second smaller volcano inside the crater. At 1,943 feet it is the deepest lake in the US. It holds 4.9 trillion gallons of water. Pretty hard to fathom.
This is a model of Crater Lake and you can see Wizard Island!
It is pretty remarkable to see this cobalt blue…so beautiful! The lake is home to the rainbow trout and Kokanee Salmon. Neither is native to the lake but they are flourishing. The picture below is the only evidence of animal life in the park on such a hot day!
They were fighting. Shameless beggars!
The lake depth hasn’t waivered much throughout the years. The lakes only source of water is through rain and snowfall.

While Crater Lake does not have issues with water retention. Nearby rivers and lakes like the Rogue are drastically down.

The Rogue River.
We were surprised they were allowing campfires at the campground.
We took a bit of a hike with Mr. Finn tonight! He was ready to go back sooner than we were due to the heat.

Tomorrow a Harvest Host camp site. Hoping the weather will cooperate since it we will be boondocking…no electricity or water.
