Vagabond Tales-Found Just Enough Water to Float a Boat

August 19, 2022. Grand Teton National Park. Signal Mountain Campground

This is Jackson Lake. You can see how low the water is!
This area is in drought conditions.

Harry had planned a float trip for today for the two of us. It was not supposed to be a private tour but that is exactly what we had. Jacob, was our guide and chief paddler. Coming in by plane, last week he said seeing Lake Jackson was frightening for him. It looks like he won’t have a job after next week with the water levels so low. We have gone white water rafting several times in our married life and every time we finish one, I say it is my last. Harry said he had this planned and it was called a scenic float trip. Thankfully for him, that was exactly what it was! A slow float down the Snake River. Didn’t see too much wild life unless you count all the boats full of fishermen!

Jacob, our trusty leader and Harry, the super trip planner. The water was only about four inches high at some places. We slipped right over them since the boat was not full.
It was early on our float down the Snake River, Harry told me he had some pressure in his ear that woke him up last night along with some drainage. Needless to say, I knew we would be visiting an urgent care when we finished up. He said no, he wasn’t going but …I knew better.
Wearing my sock Tevas proudly. Ryan and Chris were not fans of their father’s sock Tevas and I imagine they will be glad they are not here to see it happen with me. These had a lot going for them today. 1. Feet can’t get sunburned, 2. they make these sandals so much more comfortable, and 3. no chiggers can get to my bear feet.
An osprey! I just lucked out and got the moon in the shot!
Great White Pelican
Fairly skimmed over the shallow water
but we had been warned we might have to push!
A beaver den…notice the under-water entrance is above the water line.
Harry…not very happy waiting for the young PA. He did actually have an ear infection and is now on an antibiotic. The PA said the altitude wasn’t his friend right now.

To get back to Finn and our camper we drove through a small rain squall! They need more of that!

Finn with his souvenir trout!

  1. I’m reminded of a comment from a very young grandson James: “Socks with sandals. What’s with that?” Just when one has the world figured out–someone shocks you with an alternative.
