Vagabond Tales- It’s Chig, Chig, Chigger Time🎶- Not a Song You Want to Join Us In

August 12, 2022 Lewis and Clark State Park, Onawa, Iowa

Harry’s shapely leg modeling plus chigger bites!

We think we have tracked the chigger infestation down to the same grassy trail on which Finn collected burrs. Last night Harry started to have multiple bites show up…I had a few but not like Harry had. We stopped in town for some more Cortizone 10 cream, thinking it would help him get some sleep. Yea…it didn’t really touch the itching at all. Meanwhile through the night, I began to have more bites showing up. By this morning we both had spots body-wide. He was Itchy and I was Scratchy. Harry couldn’t even walk the dog this morning his legs were so pitiful. We headed into downtown, Onawa to speak with their pharmacist…First words out of her mouth, “Yes…We are having a really bad chigger year!” Wish we had known. Moral of the story…Whatever you do, SPRAY with Off when you leave the camper!”

Pharmacist recommended…Not completely an instant fix but better than the cream we had. Might be something to add to your medicine cabinet!
These men were dredging today..

It hit 94 degrees today. We are thankful for air conditioning…in our camper and other buildings around. This is a fine campground with many trees for shade…only problem…our shade tree had been cut down.

The rest of the campground.
Our site.
Our shade tree.
The visitor’s center was very cool in temperature and quite interesting.
No one from Johnson City but one from Elizabethton, TN close by.
These boats, including the long Keel boat were crafted according to Lewis and Clark’s specifications they left in their notes.
This is hard to contemplate…a round Buffalo hide canoe.
Anticipating another full moon tonight! So pretty!
Finn got a neck hair cut today! He is so hot in his winter, fur coat…I thought no one would notice his poor neck grooming. Finn says look for us tomorrow at the Badlands in South Dakota.

  1. Sorry about the chiggers. Did Finn get bitten too. I have memories of the Badlands ~ crossed them on Greyhound bus in 1971!

    1. I think he may have been saved by the fluff! He may have 1 or two bites on his left front leg as he has been chewing at it. We have been to the Badlands with the boys but it has been ages. I am going to take Benadryl tonight hoping it will help me sleep.

    2. I think his fluff may have saved him! He is biting at something on one of his front legs so he could have a few! It is just tough because any of our clothes itch terribly to wear. Been a bit more risqué around here since the chiggers arrived!

  2. So sorry you got chiggers! My Grandmother used Clorox!! Finn. Looks great. On to more adventures’
