Vagabond Tales- Revisit Brookgreen and Huntington Beach, South Carolina

Only a few days but a wonderful interlude.

Brookgreen Gardens-One of Harry and my favorite places to visit. Just really stirs up our creativity! A beautiful botanical garden known for its vast collection of statuary, in fact, Brookgreen Gardens contains the largest and most comprehensive collection of American figurative sculpture in the country…displayed in a stunning garden setting and several galleries.

The Working Horse

The next day we spent most of the day on the docks stretching out over the marsh and on the beach with an evening that took us back to Brookgreen for an evening of light in the gardens with artist, Bruce Munro…he is known best for his immersive large-scale light-based installations. A fun and stimulating day!

It wasn’t difficult to socially distance on this beach!
Miles of pristine sand and waves to enjoy!
From the boardwalks…

Evening of Lights…

This installation was called The BeeHive 🐝. As you walked along the path you heard bees buzzing in the distance, getting louder as you grew near.. Once there you saw the little octagon lights and getting even closer, still, you saw the bees on each light.
Illuminated water bottles changed colors to the music.
This was an astounding light display. It covered acres and acres and every inch seemed festooned with colorful changing lights.
Even the brick pathways were awash with projected motion lights.

We are safely home now and anticipating the next time we are able to take our little tag along with us on a trip. Until then…stay healthy and love to you all!❤️

  1. Spectacular photos, especially of skies. The one with bird in stormy clouds is a winner!

Jerry Kunisch, who did our new kitchen floor recently, also recommended Brookgreen Gardens. Looks like our kind of place. Dan

    1. You would absolutely love it, Dan! It is like nothing we have ever experienced in America art wise. The history of Altalaya at Huntington Beach where Anne Hyatt worked on her magnificent sculptures and the gardens at Brookgreen is fascinating. She was sculpting into her 80’s.
