Vagabond Tales- We Know the Newest Bark Ranger In the Petrified Forest National Park***

We are proud to announce Onyx has been issued her official Bark Ranger certificate! She had many admirers and plenty of congratulations to last her for a long time. Just might be the highlight of her trip.

Earning high praise!
We don’t think she could be any prouder!
The Visitor Center was one of our favorites because of their architecture.

Painted Desert

Notice the sweat shirt and jacket…still chilly but we love the sun!
Puerteo Pueblo …remnants of this old village were unearthed by archaeologists in 1967.

I have long been interested in ancient petroglyphs and was excited to see several drawings both at the Pueblo ruins and at Newspaper Rock where it is said many people would travel through this area and leave messages for each other.

There were several of these near the old Pueblo village.
The one below was on newspaper rock.
Markings on lower dark area on rock and the dark section to the right. We really couldn’t get too close as they are protecting them as they should.

Blue Mesa

The Tepees

Giant Logs- Petrified Forest- Crystal Forest

No one cut these logs..the land shifting made them break.
The top picture is what they call the Badlands of Arizona . Onyx really needed to inspect the petrified log to make sure it wasn’t really wood.
These look like trees but are rocks. They were trees at one time, but many years of being submerged in mineral rich waters …
They became rocks…petrified forest rocks.
This one has been cut and polished, Beautiful,

***Well, you have come to the end of our blog today. We picked up something pretty neat from this National Park’s gift shop. If you can tell us what famous highway runs right through the Petrified Forest and is also the title of a TV show in the sixties, you will be entered to win our prize. You MUST have your answer in by midnight on Saint Patrick’s Day….Tomorrow night.

    1. Glad you saw it. It was a bit difficult getting to everything as they had road work going on, so we did the Painted Desert side then drove out and went around the outside of the park to the other side. We have your answer listed!

      1. We also saw the Painted Desert, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Albuquerque, NM, and other sights in Texas. It was a wonderful trip!
