Vagabond Tales- Getting Out of Dodge-Fort Dodge, That Is

Taken from the 2nd floor rifle slit of the Block House. A fantastic look out.

Woke up to a rainy day so we spent the afternoon wandering around Fort Dodge.. Erected in 1850 by soldiers of the US Army. It was abandoned three years later in 1853. After that…just normal settlers moved into the buildings. There is only 1 original building standing from that era left on this site. The people of Fort Dodge have rebuilt both the Fort and a replica frontier street and shops sometimes using buildings from the area that have been donated and moved to the space. This wasn’t our favorite Fort but it was a nice afternoon for us!

The only original building from Fort Dodge…used by Brevet Major A. Armistead.

I fell in love both with their locally fired bricks and their pottery works!

You can’t count on the weather being always what you were hoping for but I think this is a beautiful shot from today.
