Vagabond Tales- Last of the Wildflowers

I believe this is a cut leaf coneflower. I should have packed my identification books.

August 31- The weather is almost perfect and due to the holiday, the campground is abuzz with children laughing, and the once empty area is packed with campers, tents and people and yipping, yapping dogs everywhere! We much prefer a bit calmer camping experience.

We chose to hike…Trail #4…very creative with their names. The water along #4 used to be Tippecanoe River. As the river cut a new channel to the east, the water became isolated and an oxbow lake was formed. This was more of a swampy lagoon than a lake. A beautiful green slime covered the top of the whole water surface. If we were farther south it would be ideal for a huge reptilian population. As it was, we saw a raccoon skittering around in broad daylight on the trail so I know this area is home to many wild critters. Trail pictures below.

We are only about 45 minutes from the dunes and the trail is quite different from yesterday’s.
Last days of the Cardinal Flower.
This stand of honey mushrooms was smack dab in the center of the trail.
Oxbow lagoon…looking more like a swampy stream that isn’t moving.

Now for your test for the day…We have family members who have trouble recognizing poison ivy. Maybe you can help. If you can pick the right picture and post in the comments…you will be entered in a drawing to receive a small souvenir from our trip. 😊. The entries must be in no later than midnight September 3.

  1. So glad that the weather is great. We went to see Bobby Hart yesterday. He is doing good. He said that he really has missed all of us. He laughed and said that he had lost 5 pounds, since we left. Lol We told him about your adventures and he said to tell you all to have a great time, but make sure you made it back home.
I love the pictures that you have taken.
    Keep them rolling. Lol
    Love you guys
    😄💕

  2. Oh…I’m up for the challenge, even though I am one who is highly challenged in the poison ivy world – I prefer to get PI at least once a summer and keep it for 2 weeks.

    #3 and #4 look very similar – I’m going with #3.
Can I guess twice for the drawing?
    Love M
