Vagabond Tales-Scorched Earth

Took a hike with Onyx yesterday, after it warmed up some. We really didn’t come prepared for spring weather as much as for summer. Live and learn. The trail was well worn and easy to follow. Even though they seem to be in early spring foliage most of the ground is pine needle brown. Half of our hike was like these pictures.

You would think they could come up with a snazzier name than this for a trail.
No breeze in the forest like there was by the lakeshore.
.

The Dogwood seemed to be out a little more this afternoon.

We started smelling the next part of the path long before we arrived. More than half the trail was like this. Pretty eerie to imagine what it would have been like to be in this. Some of the trees had ten or fifteen feet of char up their trunks.

You all know the wooded acerage where we live…going through two states that have a controlled burning every 3-4 years make me wonder about Tennessee’s policy. Several years ago we were invited to attend some meetings since we adjoined the National Forest and they spoke of controlled burns but years have gone by and nothing came of the discussions. Seems something we should check into when we come home.

One leg or two?

Right across from this bit of water is an island. I would like to Ford it and go explore. Good idea?
