Solution Holes = Geological Holes that hold water during wet & Dry Season
That equals…Alligator Basking Area
So…we decided NOT to hike this trail. In the shade of this sign you can see the guard. The park does’t allow any pets outside of the campground. You can understand why? Didn’t see any four legged mammals in the park, whatsoever! They have lost 85% of the mammal population within the last 15 years due to …not alligator and crocodiles but the Burmese Python. We did not see any thankfully but the park has a real problem with them. The snakes have now resorted to eating the alligators and crocs and the wading birds. There is a bounty on the snakes and they give classes to hunters on how to get them. So much more information I could share. Pretty fascinating in a yucky sort of way. Your pet gets too large for you…let it go in the Everglades. They have many invasive species that have come to them this way.
March 12- We went on a tram ride to Shark Valley Overlook. Built by the same architect that built the one at Clingman’s Dome in the Great Smoky Mountain NP. Really wanted to bike it as they have such cool t-shirts about making it on the trail with alligators but it was over 85 degrees and ….well, we chose the tram.
Just a few pics from the ride and overlook

We say good- bye to the Everglades and with that the mosquitoes ( They made a believer in bug spray out of Harry. I always used it but he didn’t and paid dearly for it.) and buzzards.

Sooooo coooool this is Connor Dorr
Connor. Would you have taken the hike?
So interesting. I love the pics .Looks like a pretty day. Mosquitoes are just one of the things I hate about Florida. Now you know why.
But how is your Raynaud’s doing in Florida? That is what was so bad when we were teaching wasn’t it? I guess, I would just keep spray at the door if I lived here.
Great pictures! Scary on the guard of the hike. I would have ran the other way, and maybe left the campsite. You guys are brave!
Ha! Never saw anything but buzzards at the Flamingo Campground.
Looks truly scary to me! But charge on! Mary Ellen
Scary-wise…not so much but it was sad Onyx couldn’t go on any hikes with us…she loves them so. We are now in places she can go with us and she will be one happy camper.
